Everyone knows I love Christmas. I am one of those people who fully believes in the ‘magic’ of the Holidays. So when the opportunity came up to review a new Christmas book I jumped at it!
“The Legend of Ranger, The Reindeer Who Couldn’t Fly” by Alan Salisbury is the heartwarming story of Rudolph’s little brother. He wants desperately to be like his famous older brother and pull Santas sleigh, but there is one thing holding him back; Ranger can’t fly! As he searches for help from his friends he is continually given the same message; to look within and believe in himself. But it’s not until faced directly with his fears that he is able to fully grasp what that message means.
This book is a wonderful addition for your school aged child’s Christmas library. It is a chapter book, allowing you to read the story over several days and take the time to talk about what is happening and how Ranger is feeling. It also includes beautiful illustrations by Roberta Baird. Though I was sent only the book for review, is it meant to be a multimedia experience that comes with a CD and a plush reindeer toy. All funds raised from the sales of this book are going to a very noble cause; the Antonia J. Giallourakis Endowed Fund in Art Therapy for Children with Cancer at Mass General Hospital for Children.

Do you think younger children would enjoy it as well? or is this more for older children? I was thinking about my 3-4 year old nephews.
Kate – it may be a bit over their head. I’d say 5 and up 🙂
A!though, they would probably love the pictures!
my kids love reindeers and Christmas so this may be a good book to get, they are 5 and 7 so perfect age ^

great looking book.
the title of this book alone intrigued me to read on. I think most children think of reindeer and Christmas like twins that belong together. My grandchildren are a little young for this but as you said they would no doubt enjoy the wonderful illustrations.
They could definitely grow into it 🙂
I love reading chapter books to my 5 year old and every year at Christmas time we read strictly Christmas books to help us get in the spirit.
