Toddlers have a big imagination and they are great at creating fictitious stories, they don’t fully grasp the concept of lying because they don’t understand the meaning of truth based in facts. Stretching the truth once in a while is totally normal, but encouraging honesty and modelling trust is important starting at a young age.
Talking to your child about the importance of telling the truth and showing him that he can trust you is a great way to start. Be sure to reward him when he tells you the truth in different situations. Being a good role model is also always the best way to teach children, they learn so much from what you do and they are always watching!
Finally, books and videos are also helpful tools. Netflix has a great selection of titles that can get the conversation started, check them out below:

Love Clifford and Curious George…..always a lesson being taught!
Teaching them that honesty is the best policy can be trying at time
This guy’s smile it too much!
Most kids learn to lie when they do something wrong
It’s a difficult theme when children are young, they are naturally very inventive and don’t see anything wrong with inventing an answer – they want to please you! Of course they don’t want to make you upset so they might well try to avoid admitting it was them who was naughty. It must be made clear to them that if they tell the truth they won’t get into trouble but there will be consequences if they lie.
When my brother was little, he made the cutest face when he was fibbing. We always knew because he couldn’t control it.
The little ones here love Curious George.
Clifford is a great show!
When i know they are lying i let it go it surprising how fast kids can make them up even at a young age,i like to sit with them and make then aware that i know about the lie and ask them why and them explain why its wrong
