We have had a terrible start to our 2016 with a bout of the flu that saw us sick in our house, one after the other, for just over three weeks. I ended up missing a whole week of work and never left the couch or bed for at least a few of those days. I was full-on-hard-core-no-kidding-man-sick, and that is hard to admit! We missed birthday parties, PAC meetings, a dinner party as well as school and work. When Angela asked who wanted to try out the new Vicks Sweet Dreams Cool Mist Humidifier I am sure I may have seemed overly keen, jumping up and down yelling ‘Pick Me! Pick Me!’
Of course I know we would have likely caught this ugly flu bug even if we had the humidifier, although some studies do show that dry sinuses can lead to more infections, BUT would we have been soothed more? I think yes! In fact I know the answer is yes, because my kids brought home a February cold (seriously, we NEED spring to arrive at our house). So we had the cold this go round and it hit my one son pretty hard so we set the humidifier up in his room. The cool mist helped him to breath comfortably through the night and seemed to also reduce the nose bleeds he usually gets at the tail end of most of his colds. We also used the Vicks Vapo-Pad insert to help him feel less congested.
It obviously is going to be part of our get-better routine but guess what else it does??? It has the cutest night light that can be set to 3 sweet, soothing settings, safari, night sky or underwater. The images project onto the ceiling and it can be run without using the humidifier function. My youngest is a great sleeper but still likes a night light to fall asleep. My only wish for this feature is that it would shut off after an hour, I am such a believer in sleeping in the dark-dark to really get a good rest. I remember to turn the night light off most nights, but not all so it would be nice to have that as an option.
The unit itself is very quiet and needs no filter. It is relatively easy to refill, and holds enough water to run for a couple of nights. It looks like it is pretty average to clean out. These are all great features that are pretty important when choosing a humidifier. Trust me when I say the cutest humidifiers don’t always have the best ‘functional’ features, like being nearly impossible to really get truly clean. I have a list of must-haves for humidifiers and everything passed.

I do like the sound of these, especially that they also have three dream inspired scenes.
Looks like a great product!
I didn’t know Vick’s made a humidifier…..great to know about now!
reasonably priced and available at Shoppers! Love that.
I love the look of this humidifier. I’d really love to get one.
Three of my five children suffered from croup. My youngest son was croupy at four months old, which was very scary. I bought a cool-mist vaporizer and the next morning, I was delighted and so happy to hear that the raspy breathing had been replaced with his regular quiet breathing. I was very relieved to realize how much the vaporizer helped him then and also later when he would have episodes.
My eye specialist has said that I need a humidifier since my eyes are giving me problems – this might be the one. 🙂
Sounds like a nice little humidifier and I do like the fact that there’s also a Vicks Vapo-Pad insert that can be used. Mum used to rub Vick’s Vapour on our chests when we had a cold so that we could breathe easier at bedtime. 🙂
This sounds like it is a must have for this time of year especially. Our home can get very dry.
