tardisk

I love photography and my computer is filled with photos and videos of our boys, our travels and more. In fact, I have so many photos and videos saved on my computer that I am always running out of disk space. In the past I have tried using external hard drives but I always end up getting rid of them because they are just not convenient.

Enter the new TarDisk. The only product available in the market that easily expands your existing Macbook drive by merging with your drive to create one larger drive. No tools required and all done easily with a TarDisk and a simple click. No need to delete old memories!

Tardisk

TarDisk looks like an SD card and it goes in the SD card slot in your computer. It adds hybrid storage space to OS X, it merges with your MacBook’s internal HD to expand it while keeping all of your files in one place at the speeds you expect. With TarDisk you can double or triple your internal MacBook drive within minutes.

I was impressed by how easy it was to set up and the fact that you can’t even tell it’s inside your computer. The TarDisk was made to match the solid aluminum uni-body chassis of the Macbook and it looks good. Now I have an extra 128GB that I can use to store all my photos and videos without having to worry about filling my disk.

I received the TarDisk with Pear 2.0. Pear provides a unique implementation of a hybrid drive which combines a specially built TarDisk and your internal solid state drive to provide a single managed logical volume on your MacBook. One drive, twice as big.

Below are some important features to note:

  • The new logically merged volume is managed by OS X.
  • Internal SSD is primarily used before data is sent to TarDisk.
  • More frequently used files are maintained on SSD hardware.
  • TRIM enabled SSDs maintain original speed benefits of TRIM.
  • Read/Write buffer (“swap-space-equivalent”) is maintained on SSD to buffer writes to files located on TarDisk.
  • Failure modes, if ever encountered, allow for direct restoration from Time Machine backups.

I loved that after I set up TarDisk, all of my data was automatically sorted out and I didn’t have to change anything or manage anything. I see my extra storage that is available and that’s all. Easy and fast. My MacBooks performance is perfect and I’ve had no problems so far.

TarDisk is a permanent solution and you can’t remove it from your computer while you are using it. You can always uninstall it and “unpear” your computer so you can remove it but you will go back to the old drive size you started with.

If you are worried about not being able to use the SD card slot while using TarDisk or if you use your laptop to read a lot of SD cards you can always purchase an inexpensive USB SD card reader to use.

I love not having to chose the memories I get to keep and what I have to delete anymore. The extra disk space is great and it was so easy to set everything up! You can learn more about TarDisk on their website and order one there.
