Did you know that October is
Star Wars Reads Month? We are big Star Wars fans and the boys love reading so we were excited to celebrate Star Wars month with DK books. To help you get started and ready to celebrate as well be sure to download the Star Wars activity kit from the DK Books website
here. Lots of fun activities for the kids to do!
Our 3-year-old loves Star Wars and he enjoys when we sit down to read books together, he knows all the names of the characters and points to them and calls out their names as we read.
Our 6 year-old learned to read last year and he has been obsessed with reading since. We go to the library to get books out weekly and he goes through the big piles of books fast. We also read at home at bedtime and the DK Readers books are our favourites. We love that they have different levels and the first levels are perfect for our son to read on his own.
Here are the DK Readers books we received this month:
Introduce new readers to the amazing Star Wars™ universe with Star Wars: The Force Awakens™: New Adventures. Part of DK’s long established reading program, this reader is a Level 1, designed for those beginning to read. Combining clear, simple text with eye-catching images from The Force Awakens™, this book will help young readers learn to love reading.
A dark power is rising, and the galaxy is in danger in DK Readers L2: LEGO® Star Wars: The Force Awakens™! Meet the brave new heroes who must battle to protect the galaxy. Join them in their fight against evil. Can they stop the First Order’s sinister plans? Level 2 titles contain carefully selected photographic images to complement the text, providing strong visual clues to build vocabulary and confidence for kids who are beginning to read fluently with support. Additional information spreads provide fun facts that help develop the topics through a range of nonfiction presentation styles, such as diagrams and activities.
Join Finn as he faces the might of the evil First Order in DK Readers L3: Star Wars™: Finn’s Mission. From the desert wastelands of Jakku to the jungles of D’Qar and the frozen mountains of the Starkiller, follow Finn as he bravely battles the First Order. Meet the heroes who will help him in his mission, and face the terrifying enemies who will stand in his way.
Level 3 titles include in-depth information presented through more complex sentence structure, increasing the amount of text to expand the reader’s general knowledge and confidence in reading. Additional information spreads are full of extra facts, developing the topics through a range of nonfiction presentation styles, such as fliers, instructions, and record-breaker statistics.
DK Reader Level 3: Star Wars®: Star Pilot features a lively, fact-packed narrative about the spaceships and vehicles of Star Wars. What is the biggest spaceship? What is a Jedi starfighter? This exciting book has all the answers!
Level 3 is for children able to read on their own. The stories are exciting and captivating in order to develop the child’s own desire to read. More text and more complex sentence structure are presented, with information spreads to help develop the reader’s general knowledge. The choice of subject widens to match the broadening of children’s experiences and interests.
The boys also received The Amazing Book of Star Wars and the Ultimate Sticker Collection: Star Wars: The Force Awakens. They both love stickers and enclyclopedia type books so they have been having a great time learning about their favourite characters from the Star Wars movies. The Amazing Book of Star Wars also came with a cool life size BB-8 poster that is now in our son’s room, he loves it!
The weird, wonderful, exciting world of Star Wars: The Force Awakens™ comes alive with this Ultimate Sticker Collection. Featuring more than 1,000 stickers of new characters, creatures, aliens, droids, and ships, as well as free-stick pages to create your own scenes, this Ultimate Sticker Collection will keep children entertained for hours.
Start your Padawan’s training off right with The Amazing Book of Star Wars™, the perfect introduction for young fans to the Star Wars galaxy.
Large pictures and short, simple sentences bring Star Wars to life for children aged 4 to 6 as they learn about the brave heroes, helpful droids, amazing aliens, and powerful foes from the saga. Favorite characters and fascinating vehicles are explored in a fun, age-appropriate way, from Yoda and Luke Skywalker to the Millennium Falcon and BB-8.
