New FDA regulations regarding sunscreen UVA testing are now taking effect, requiring any sunscreen claiming to protect against UVA to prove it. According to the new regulations only products that pass a rigorous UVA testing can be labeled “Broad Spectrum”.

I learned that besides the new UVA regulations that you mentioned in your post, terms like “waterproof” and “sweat proof” will no longer be permitted on sunscreen labels, as the FDA sees these claims as misleading. The new terms will be “water resistant” and “very water resistant” and that water resistance claims on product labels must state how long the user can expect the specified SPF protection to hold up while swimming or sweating.
