by Angela V If you know me, then you know that I love trying out new technology. Anything that can help simplify my life or help me stay organized is welcomed in my life. So when we were invited to try out the Amazon Echo and Echo Dot we had to say yes!
I am not sure why we had not gotten one of these before. They are amazing! Alexa, the brain behind the Echo and Echo Dot is built in the cloud, so it is always getting smarter. Your Echo device is always connected, ready to help keep you organized and answer your questions with simple voice commands.
Alexa can help set up your morning routine, check your calendar for appointments, check morning traffic, news, weather, send you reminders, order items directly from Amazon.ca, play your favourite music, and so much more. It truly feels like you have your own personal assistant you can bug all day long. No attitude or talk back to worry about, besides, you can even ask Alexa to tell you a joke. Ha!
I set up my Echo in my kitchen, and I love that it blends in with the room, doesn’t stick out, and it is right in the heart of our home where most of our school prep will be happening in September. You can get different colour sleeves for your device to match your own space as well. I can’t wait to use Alexa to help me stay on top of things and set up my back to school routine.
The Echo Dot is now living in my office. I love that it is always ready to help schedule my calendar and I use it to help me create shopping lists as well. I have started a back to school shopping list already, and I just add new items whenever I remember something new. I also love that I can tell it to play my favourite podcasts or music playlists while I work, all with voice commands.

- “Alexa, what’s the forecast today?”
- “Alexa tell everyone, the bus is here.”
- “Alexa, what’s on my calendar today?”
- “Alexa, order colouring crayons.”

We have a google home and a mini in our house. I use ours the same way you do, it’s been so helpful! I’d love to see you do a comparison and which one you love more!
This sounds so handy for back to school. I love how you can send messages through it… saves me from having to tell them through the house 😅😂

we love our Alexa! making shopping lists, checking the weather, sending voice messages to grandma and grandpa, asking how many days till christmas and endless (and i mean endless) knock knock jokes.
i often find myself asking alexa things in the car…….. i need alexa in my car lol

An Echo has been on my wAn Echo has been on my wish list for a while now! Back to school time is a great time to get one for sure… !

I too love how it blends in almost seamlessly in your kitchen. I actually did not know you could buy sleeves for the Echo! Another big plus.

I love technology and I especially think that the Amazon Echo and similar products are amazing and innovative, but I have been apprehensive about privacy and security concerns related to these products. I want to get one, but will wait a bit longer… Thanks!
I love the idea of being able to always have music on hand!
My son, in England, has one of these and he loves it, even regulates the room temperature with it. He programmed it last summer whilst I was there, to make an announcement every single hour, whilst he and his wife were at work. Things like “Remember to eat your vegetables”, “Fruit is good for you”, “Time for a coffee” etc etc. LOL
