Look for the biggest and brightest moon of the year this week. Don’t miss the supermoon happening tomorrow April 7, and Wednesday, April 8, 2020.
What is a supermoon?
A supermoon occurs when the moon moves closer to the Earth than usual, and it is in its full moon cycle, looking larger and brighter than usual.
This is a shot of a supermoon I captured back in 2012 with my DSLR. I may get my camera out again this year to try to capture it again.
Best Times to Watch the Supermoon on April 7, 2020
The best times to watch the supermoon phenomenon are moonrise on Tuesday, April 7, 2020, and moonset the following morning on Wednesday, April 8, 2020. Here is a link to Vancouver’s moonrise and moonset schedule. You can click on the link and enter your own location to find out the best time to check out the supermoon in your city.
This is one thing we can still do, even during self-isolation, whether you watch from your backyard or through your living room window.
However, if you somehow miss this one, there will be a chance to catch another supermoon on May 7th. Add that to your calendars!
Happy moon watching, friends.

Guess I missed that one, maybe next one.
It was beautiful! I’ll have to make a note for the May 7th full moon so I don’t miss it.
I can’t believe we didn’t get out to see this!
My kids can’t stay up late enough to enjoy these sky spectaculars, neither can I lol. Maybe in the future we can see more of them, looks really cool.
My teenage son is a Sky Captain…we are alerted of the Super Moon/Lunar and Solar Eclipses – guess it started with the telescope we gave him on his sixth birthday. Who knew ? Grateful to witness when they do occur, thanks Evan.
