The Lunar New Year is the beginning of a lunar calendar or lunisolar calendar year, with months being moon cycles. Lunar New Year celebrations get started this weekend all around the world.

The Chinese zodiac system assigns each year to one of 12 animals, and this year, it is the year of the rabbit.

Last week I attended a Lunar New Year media event in Burnaby, at Metropolis at Metrotown’s Grand Court, where they decorated and set up little stations to help people celebrate and ring in the year of the rabbit. I love how festive and colourful it was, and the positive, happy energy around the celebrations. All about wishing people luck and good fortune for the New Year ahead.

If you are local, you can stop at Metrotown to check out the decorations, craft demonstrations,  Lunar Year Performances and more, from Jan 22- Feb 5. Visit their website for more details.
