With back-to-school fast approaching, I am back to sharing easy-to-make homemade snacks for the kids to take to school.
One of my favourite recipes is this Easy and Delicious Homemade Chocolate Chip Granola Bars Recipe.
Everyone loves homemade granola bars; they are much healthier than store-bought, packed with nutritious ingredients, and seriously so easy to make.
This recipe is incredibly versatile. You can substitute ingredients to cater to your kids’ preferences. Instead of mini chocolate chips, you can add raisins or dried fruit; they taste great with those. Or if you are making them for yourself and not planning to send them to school, you can add nuts.
I make the nut-free version in our home to ensure the kids can take them to school daily.
You can store these individually wrapped in parchment paper, which will last you several weeks, or you can freeze them by adding them to an airtight container and storing them in the freezer for up to 4 months.
You can stick them in your kid’s lunch bag right out of the freezer, and they’ll thaw by the time they eat them for snacktime at school.
HELPFUL TIPS:
- Coat the dry and wet ingredients thoroughly to ensure they bake evenly and taste great. Make sure everything is mixed well, and use a rubber spatula or wooden spoon to combine.
- Every oven is different, so keep an eye on it and see if you need more or less cooking time. As soon as you start smelling the sweet scent of granola, you can tell you are getting close, and you can also tell it is getting that beautiful golden colour.
- Please wait for it to cool down fully after you take it out of the oven before cutting. If you don’t, it will crumble. Be patient; I promise it will be worth it.
- You can use parchment paper to line your baking sheet and wrap each bar after cooking.
- If some bars crumble a bit while cutting, add them to a reusable ziplock bag for a granola-on-the-go snack.
- Enjoy!

- Bake for 15 minutes, or until golden.
- Let the granola cool completely before cutting it into 4 x 1 inch bars. This step is very important, don't cut them until they cool down completely.
