There’s something about spring that makes me want to refresh everything — closets, routines, snacks… and yes, find new great books to read. As the days get a little longer and we start spending more time reading on the balcony, before bed or cuddled up on rainy afternoons, I love switching up our family’s book rotation with stories that reflect the season — full of wonder, growth, and a little whimsy.
Here’s a peek into what we’re reading this April, — with something for everyone in the house, I even added some suggestions for toddlers to grown-ups (aka me, trying to stay awake for “just one more chapter”).
For Toddlers (Ages 1–3)
- Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert
A colourful classic that teaches kids how flowers grow — and introduces them to colours and garden vocabulary at the same time. It’s sturdy, simple, and so satisfying to read aloud. - Little Blue Truck’s Springtime by Alice Schertle
Lift-the-flaps, animal friends, and a joyful spring setting? Yes, please. My boys loved pointing out the baby animals on each page when they were younger — it will become a spring favourite on repeat. - Busy Bunny Days by Britta Teckentrup
This one’s a hidden gem — part seek-and-find, part storybook, with tons of little details to explore. A perfect choice for keeping tiny hands and eyes busy.
For Kids (Ages 4–8)
- And Then It’s Spring by Julie Fogliano
This gentle, poetic book captures that in-between moment when winter fades and you’re waiting, waiting, waiting for green. It’s surprisingly moving — and quietly magical. - Fletcher and the Springtime Blossoms by Julia Rawlinson
A sweet tale about a little fox who thinks snow is falling again — only to learn about blossoms instead. Great for talking about how nature changes in spring. - The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle
We’re big Eric Carle fans in this house, and this one is both educational and beautifully told. It’s about resilience, growth, and the cycle of nature — all through the eyes of one little seed.
For Teens (Ages 12+)
- The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Think: Knives Out meets high school drama. A twisty, fast-paced mystery that’s super readable and full of surprises — perfect for teens who love puzzles and a little bit of glamour. - You Have a Match by Emma Lord
From the author of Tweet Cute, this is a sweet, summery story about friendship, found family, and sisterhood — with a side of camp hijinks and a little romance. Great for fans of feel-good YA. - They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera
Yes, the title gives away the ending — but the journey is what makes this book unforgettable. It’s poignant, thought-provoking, and full of big questions about how we choose to live. - Every Body Looking by Candice Iloh
A beautiful novel-in-verse about identity, independence, and finding your voice. Raw, lyrical, and perfect for teens navigating big transitions.
For Grown-Ups (Because Parents Need Stories Too)
- The”The Lazy Genius Way” by Kendra Adachi
A guide to figuring out what actually matters in your life—and letting the rest go. - Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb
Part memoir, part therapy tell-all — it’s funny, vulnerable, and totally un-put-downable. A great pick if you’re craving some grown-up introspection with humour and heart. - Untamed by Glennon Doyle
A bold, liberating read about shedding expectations and living authentically. Powerful for moms especially. - Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle by Emily & Amelia Nagoski
Especially relevant for parents constantly juggling it all. Practical and validating.
Whether it’s 5 minutes before school or a full-blown story session before bed, books are one of the best ways we connect as a family.
I’d love to know what you and your little readers are enjoying right now — drop your favourites in the comments or tag me on Instagram so we can swap recs!
Happy reading, and happy spring, friends!
