In an era where digital navigation dominates our everyday lives, there’s something undeniably charming about the tactile, artistic representation of a map.
Different Maps is an online store that offers a unique take on traditional cartography art. It specializes in stunning laser-cut wooden maps with epoxy resin, an exceptional and exciting product.
In a world inundated with mass-produced décor, finding something unique and memorable can be challenging. We have been searching for unique art pieces since our move to the North Shore in the summer, and that’s why I was thrilled to discover Different Maps and their art. Eager to add a unique piece of art to my living space, I jumped at the chance to personalize and receive one of their pieces.
Different Maps prides itself on seamlessly blending new technologies with traditional carpentry techniques to create stunning works of art. Each map is meticulously crafted with care and precision, resulting in pieces that showcase not only the beauty of the world but also the artistry of the craftsmen behind them, commanding admiration and respect for their craftsmanship.
What sets Different Maps apart is their commitment to celebrating the inherent beauty of nature. Using natural wood and vibrant epoxy resin, they’ve created maps that are functional and breathtakingly beautiful. Each map tells a story, with the wood grain adding a touch of authenticity and the resin infusing it with mesmerizing colours.
I love that you can personalize your art by selecting the map you want them to make. Whether you’re a seasoned traveller or an armchair explorer, these maps serve as both a reminder of past adventures and an inspiration for future ones, creating a deep sense of personal connection and belonging.
We decided to honour our new home by choosing a map of North Vancouver. You can also select the wood of your choice, and we agreed on Light Oak to match our home aesthetic.
Upon receiving my order, I was immediately struck by the meticulous attention to detail in the packaging. Carefully encased within many protective layers, the wooden map emerged unscathed, ready to unveil its intricacies. The map felt substantial and was made with high-quality wood.
The first thing that caught my eye was the exquisite blend of natural wood grain and vibrant epoxy resin. Each contour, river, and coastline seemed to come alive beneath the glossy surface, inviting exploration with its depth and texture.
I was so excited! I had to take a photo the moment we unpacked it.
Initially, we had picked a different wall to display the map, but upon receiving it, we realized we wanted it to be in an area where it would always be seen. We decided to put it on the wall by the stairs, an area with heavy transit and where we can admire it for many years.
I am in love with our new map. I love its meaning, honouring our new area, and that it is a unique, aesthetic, and visually captivating piece —a true conversation piece! Despite its artistic flair, the map remained an accurate depiction of geographical features, making it as informative as it is stunning.
My experience with Different Maps was nothing short of delightful. From the seamless online personalization and ordering process to the impeccable delivery and craftsmanship of the final product, every aspect of my interaction with the brand exceeded expectations. By seamlessly blending art and precision, Different Maps has succeeded in creating more than just decorative pieces – they’ve crafted portals to new worlds, inviting us to explore and appreciate the beauty of our planet in a whole new light.
Their dedication to craftsmanship and passion for celebrating the world’s beauty shine through in every map they create. I can see why they have been recognized as the winners of the A’Design Award and competition, one of the highest design achievements.
