We have been dealing with snow for the last few days here in East Vancouver, and even though the streets look all white and pretty, our city is a total mess. It was chaos on the roads and schools in the Vancouver district were all cancelled today.
So we had a snow day, left our cars parked in front of the house, worked from home, made some hot chocolate and enjoyed the day together.
The boys had a blast playing with the snow, and they helped clear the sidewalk this morning. We also brought down the biggest icicles that were attached to our roof drain pipe. Imagine being hit on the head with those! OUCH!
We are sharing a picture heavy post with images from our winter wonderland in Vancouver.

The first snow storm of 2020 in Vancouver. Plus check out the size of those icicles!

This photo was taken yesterday Jan 14th. We had some snow the night before, and we had no idea just how much snow we were actually getting that night!

This girl LOVES the snow. She has the best time running around eating snow. Ps. Isn’t she the cutest with her super cozy vest?

Woke up to this much snow today, January 15th, 2020

So much snow overnight. Checked my phone at 6 am when we woke up. School cancelled in Vancouver!

After breakfast, the boys and I headed outside to clear our sidewalk Ps. Vancouver people, PLEASE clean the sidewalk! It is slippery and dangerous if you don’t. And if you can, help those elderly neighbours who can’t do it themselves.

Almost done the front of the house!

All clear!

Now we headed to the backyard. So much snow!

Kids are so helpful!

Big smiles from the hardest working snow shovelers!

“Mom, so much snow, my arm is covered with it!”

Then we spotted the biggest icicles!

Kind of cool!

Had to get them down before they fell on somebody’s head!

At around 3:00 pm (Jan 15th) the snow picked up, and it started coming down hard. Looked beautiful, like we were inside a snowglobe.

Wondering how much snow we’ll have tomorrow morning!

More snow! Vancouver storm round #2
So now the question is. Are the schools going to be cancelled again in Vancouver tomorrow, Jan 16, 2020? I think there is a big chance that we will have a second snow day. It all depends on what happens overnight.
We are not used to this, and it is hilarious how the rest of the country laughs at our snow issues. Temperature-wise it isn’t very cold; the problem is that the city isn’t ready to deal with snow. Drivers don’t have snow tires, and public transit comes to a halt.
I wonder if we are ever going to be ready. With global warming and all the environmental changes, we can only expect more storms like this every year. Only time will tell.
In the meantime, stay safe and warm Vancouver.

So much snow for Vancouver! Wow! Incredible.
Holly! You have more than us in Toronto!
We are starting to get snow here in Ontario. My dad is looking forward to the storm, because he’s a big kid and wants to play with his snowblower.
