Did you know that there is a National Mac & Cheese day? Oh yes! People across the United States celebrated their beloved macaroni and cheese on July in all its cheesy glory. Those of us who can’t or don’t eat cheese or gluten usually get the short end of the stick in the quick and easy food department.
There are a few gluten free options in the boxed mac & cheese aisle as well as some dairy free options but there haven’t been too many (if any) that are both. Canadian company Daiya has come up with a solution for this terrible problem. Rejoice vegans and Celiac’s, you now have a mac & cheese just for you!
Daiya has introduce not one but three varieties of Cheezy Mac which is not only gluten and dairy free but free of soy as well. When my pasta loving son saw the boxes that Daiya kindly sent over he repeatedly asked when we could have them for dinner. Because the Daiya Cheezy Mac comes with a squeeze-pouch of sauce rather than a powder, it was beyond simple to make. All I had to do was cook the pasta. This is my kind of dinner prep. I also appreciated that while this is 100% a convenience food, it is one that is whole grain and has 0 g of Trans-fats, 0 mg of cholesterol and 20% of an adults daily recommended B12.
We started with the Deluxe Cheddar Style option and my kiddo was pretty thrilled with it. I am one of those rare vegans who happily gave up cheese as I never really liked it much anyways. This particular Daiya product wasn’t my favourite (I absolutely love their pizzas and cheesecake) but my son was definitely the more qualified judge. I am looking forward to trying the Alfredo and White Cheddar Veggie Style varieties and I think the the kid is too.
Daiya Cheezy Mac is available at many US retailers and should be on Canadian shelves in October. Cheezy Mac has a MSRP of $4.99 which is very reasonable for an allergen-free meal that can be ready and on the table in less than ten minutes.

I’ve never seen this brand before but it looks delicious
I bought this for my daughter with a dairy allergy. It was gross to be honest tastes like chemicals and leaves a horrible after taste. Not worth the $6 in my opinion.
