by Angela V We have a couple of Instax mini 9s at home, and the boys and I love them. Being able to print photos instantly is super fun, and you can get really creative with your shots.
I was recently given the brand new FUJIFILM Instax Mini LiPlay hybrid camera to try out, and we’ve been playing with it and capturing some fun photos this summer.
The Mini LiPlay is a hybrid camera that allows you to capture and instantly print photos from the camera or directly print from your smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth. This new camera features a fixed wide-angle lens, built-in flash, integrated selfie mirror, and a rear LCD monitor for image composition and printing setup.
As a hybrid instant camera, you can record your photos digitally, select the images you want to print, and print them out on INSTAX Mini Film, as many times as you want. This camera also allows you to record audio and “attach” it to your print through the use of a QR Code, which can be scanned to hear the sounds while viewing.
I love the sleek look of the Mini LiPlay and how compact it is. This is the perfect size camera to carry with you when you are going on an adventure. It also comes in some pretty fun colours. Ours is Stone White.
The LiPlay also offers a variety of frames and filters that can be applied to your shots when printing, making printing so much more fun.
One of my favourite feature of this hybrid camera is the Bluetooth connectivity. Thanks to it, you can pair your phone with the camera for remote shooting and for wireless printing of images from your phone.
Below I am sharing a list of some other functions/features I love on the new Mini LiPlay:
♥Prints to Instant Film: Prints to INSTAX Mini instant film, 2.4 x 1.8″ images on a credit card-sized, 3.4 x 2.1″ sheet.
♥ Self-Shot Mirror: Like other Instax cameras before, the Mini LiPlay features a self-shot mirror attached to the side of the lens. I love this one when taking selfies as you can actually check the shooting range.
♥Lens: It has a fixed 28mm-equivalent lens offers a versatile wide-angle perspective, and an f/2 aperture is well-suited for working in a variety of lighting conditions. The lens also has a 3.9″ minimum focusing distance for working with close-up subjects.
♥ LCD Screen: It has a rear 2.7″ 230k-dot LCD monitor to navigate the menu and review your photos.
♥Built-in Flash: Great when working in low-light conditions. This light is also used to indicate the self-timer countdown.
♥ Rechargeable Battery: Battery can take approximately 100 images per charge. It can be charged via USB in approximately 2-3 hours (USB cable included).
♥ Internal Memory: Internal memory holds 45 still images, and you can use a microSD/SDHC memory card slot can be used to expand storage capacity.
♥Re-Print: Do you love a photo so much you want another copy? Yes, you can actually re-print your favourites with the Mini LiPlay. Photos are saved in your history (latest 50), and you can go back to print them again. Great when you want to gift somebody a copy and still keep one as well.
I am really enjoying playing with the Instax Mini LiPlay. I love that as a hybrid; I can get creative with my shots, add fun frames, sounds, and then print only the photos I really love, without compromising and knowing exactly how the end print will look like. I can also connect it to my phone via Bluetooth for remote shooting and to print my favourite photos taken with my phone.
If you are in the market for a compact, instant camera, then I highly suggest you check out the Mini LiPlay. I’m afraid this isn’t a camera that I’d like to have. I wouldn’t like having to buy film for it and I don’t like the size of the resulting prints either.
I love my Instax Camera; its getting a little rough and old, so I will look into getting a new one!

ooo i love that you can print out pics as soon as you take them! i have hundreds and hundreds of pics on my phone and my computer that never get printed but its something i always want to get around to. and the print quality looks great too
Both of my twin girls have Instax cameras and love playing around with them. I know that they would be thrilled with the features that this new Hybrid version has especially the Bluetooth capabilities. Mommy may just invest in one and consider sharing with them!
I think it great for kid to take photos and print them instantly. I remember the Polaroid cameras way back when.
