Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), is a term used to group together these academic disciplines. Typically used in schools to improve competitiveness in science and technology development.
On November 8 we celebrate National S.T.E.M Day, a national holiday to encourage kids of all ages to identify their passions in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. An important day to reminds us to help children explore and develop the necessary skills to succeed when choising STEM careers in the future.
Playing with LEGO sets can help children practice problem-solving and enhance their creativity. Sets like the LEGO Classic Mission to Mars we recently got to try are perfect for inspiring children to use their imagination and creativity while they build their own masterpieces.
Loose bricks and construction play can help develop the lifelong skills that are often correlated with success in STEM: perseverance, logic/spatial awareness, problem-solving, etc. Playing with loose bricks, children are even more encouraged to develop these skills.
I love watching the boys build and play with LEGO at home and watching how they concentrate as they create new things. No screen time is needed as entertainment and it is educational play. Win, win!
Children learn by playing and when they are building with LEGO they are strengthening some crucial skills and using their creativity at the same time.
Do you have little ones who enjoying building and creating with LEGO bricks as well?
