I like to think of myself as a bit of an Eco-Diva. I try to buy all natural and chemical-free everything, especially when it comes to my children. These days there are no shortage of green products to choose from, but the one area that still seems to be lacking is the toy department. Yes, there are some cool toys out there that are made of recycled materials or are imported from Europe and made of wood, but when it comes to infant toys there still seems to be a gap in the market place.
Enter Meiya and Alvin. This newer line of baby/toddler toys is everything an Eco-Diva could dream of and more. They are made with:
- New fiber filing, which is reclaimed from recycled plastic bottles
- Natural rubber, which is sustainably harvested from the Havea Tree
- All natural cotton
- Certified non-toxic, BPA-free, phthalate-free and PVC-free materials
- Hand-painted with plant-based, non-toxic dyes
The Meyia the Mouse Deluxe Gift Set we received was packaged in a ridiculously cute “house” (box), which is made using recycled board with soy-based inks. The product line is machine washable, which is essential, of course. The set was also the winner of the Dr. Toy Best Green Award for 2015.
Our set included Meiya the Mouse as well as a small board book called “A Day at the Park with Meiya & Alvin”. Meiya has a natural rubber head begging to be gnawed on by a teething baby or toddler and reminds me of the other popular rubber animal that many babies know and love (but is just an expensive dog toy for babies in my so humble opinion).
My little monster was absolutely enthralled with opening and closing Meiya’s house and taking her and the book out and putting it back. She also enjoyed hearing the story. I suspect that when her next set of teeth start to rear their ugly little heads, Meiya will bear the brunt of her chewing. I really appreciate that the toy is washable as any baby toy that is consistently drooled on becomes a great breeding ground for mould.
The whole line of Meiya and Alvin products are available at Great Pretenders. The Deluxe Gift Set retails for $50.00 CDN and would be a fabulous shower or first birthday present.
Disclosure: I was gifted product for review consideration, this is however not a paid post and all opinions and views on this post are 100% my own.

What a lovely set. Meyia the Mouse is adorable. This would make a great gift.
that would make a great gift
I must admit that I was surprised on coming here that not all baby clothes are made of natural cotton, which is the norm in Germany when I lived for many years. It’s not easy finding natural fiber clothes for children which makes this so much nicer. I love this set, the fact that it’s extremely eco friendly is a huge plus in my mind. It would make a lovely present for anyone. 🙂
That is so cute. It’s great that there are eco friendly gifts like this out there for a reasonable price
This gift set would make an adorable gift.
