Longing for a family getaway not far from the city, a place with breathtaking mountain views, healing hot spring mineral pools, great cuisine and fantastic accommodations? Just 90 minutes away from Vancouver Harrison Hot Springs Resort & Spa is just what you are looking for!
We spent a night away at Harrison Resort and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, from the moment we arrived until the moment we checked out.
The drive to Harrison Hot Springs Resort & Spa was fast and easy, perfect when traveling with young children. As soon as you arrive at the resort you can appreciate its location, just metres away from Harrison Lake and surrounding mountains. Harrison Lake offers family friendly water activities like swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and a floating water park.
Our room was located in the East Tower of the resort, overlooking Harrison Lake. The room had very tasteful décor and we enjoyed the air-conditioning, just what we needed during the heat-wave. The room’s size and the floor-to-ceiling windows to the private balconies were also a great addition to the room and they certainly made the East Tower a great choice for a family of four. We spent a lot of time on the balcony enjoying the fresh air as it was safe for the boys and the view was amazing.
The resort also offers free high-speed Internet access and complimentary bathrobes for all guests. Every afternoon at 4 o-clock there is also free tea and cookies/cake served for guess to enjoy. The boys devoured their banana bread and my husband and I each had some cookies and tea.
The main attractions of Harrison Resort are the hot springs and their five mineral hot pools. Mineral pools are well known for their health benefits, including helping people with muscle fatigue, joint paint, eczema and more. At the Harrison Resort you can choose between two springs ranging from 105 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit and there are indoor and outdoor pools, as well as family pools and adult only pool areas for people traveling without kids.
We spent most of our time in the outdoor family pool which features running water, waterfalls, large granite rocks, and lush foliage. This large pool offers a gradual, sloped entrance for children and ledge-style seating in various areas. The pools at the resort were very pleasant, refreshing, therapeutic and very enjoyable. They were also extremely clean.
I also had the chance to book a one-hour reflexology massage at the Healing Springs Spa and I headed to the spa shortly after checking into the resort. The spa is conveniently located near the mineral springs area.
Upon entering the spa I was greeted by soothing music and scents and the friendly and professional staff. The massage rooms have comfortable massage tables, dimmed lights and an inviting and relaxing environment. I had a wonderful experience at the spa and with my masseuse and I left the spa feeling refreshed and relaxed.
After my massage I joined my family and we spent the rest of the afternoon at the family pool. Enjoying a soak in the warm mineral water after a massage was wonderful, I could feel my muscles relaxing even more and I felt energized after.
For dinner we decided to stop by the Lakeside Café, an à la carte restaurant. We sat outside on the balcony and enjoyed the view of the lake. The kid’s menu was a hit with the boys and we had a lovely meal as well, I ordered the special, a delicious Sirloin Steak. We found the portions at this restaurant were large and we had left overs to take with us to our room, the items in the menu were a bit pricey but with the larger portions you can justify sharing a meal or saving the left-overs for a later snack. The Lakeside Café also offers a great breakfast buffet with an omelette bar where you get your eggs cooked on the spot and all sort of delicious pastries, juices, fruits and yogurts to choose from.
With our short stay we only tried the Lakeside Café for both dinner and breakfast but there are three other restaurants at the resort. We will definitively be checking them out next time we visit the resort.
The Village of Harrison is located steps from the resort and we also explored around a bit, we ate some ice-cream from a local store and enjoyed riding a quadricycle to tour the area, so much fun for the boys! You can rent a quadricycle at a rental spot in the Village and get some good exercise while riding with the family, just blocks away from the resort.
We left the resort feeling relaxed and revitalized and we will definitively consider visiting the resort again. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful, the warm mineral pools were wonderful and the boys enjoyed the time we spent at the resort, our 4-year-old was even asking why we had to go so soon!
If you decide to visit the Harrison Springs Resort consider that at this time of year the Fraser Valley offers many unique family-focused culinary and artisan experiences that will be great additions to your visit to the area. There are farm tours in Langley, Chilliwack and Agassiz, which Harrison is closest to. Some recommended stops include:
- Langley JD Farms Specialty Turkeys
- Chilliwack Yarrow Farm Store
- Agassiz Farmhouse Cheeses and Hammersley Farms
The Harrison Springs Resort also offers a selection of great Season Packages for families, designed to celebrate the current season. More information on their summer packages HERE.
