We love taking our furry doggy girl with us when we travel, especially when our destination is dog-friendly.

We recently travelled to Whistler, British Columbia, for a fun end-of-summer escape, a little bit of Mountain Biking for my husband and our youngest,  nature hiking, and some spa time for me.  We took our large Goldendoodle dog with us and had a wonderful time.

Whistler offers the perfect blend of outdoor adventures, scenic nature landscapes, and pet-friendly accommodations.

Today I am sharing some tips to help you make the most of your trip with your dog in Whistler.

Traveling to Whistler, British Columbia with Your Dog

1.  Preparation is Key.

Before you hit the road, ensure your dog is ready for the adventure.

Pack all the essentials, including their food, water, travel dog bowls, a sturdy leash, plenty of poop bags, a dog first aid kit, and your dog’s favourite blanket/toy.

Don’t forget to bring your dog’s health records (rabies vaccine certificate), especially if you plan to cross any borders.

2.  Choosing a Pet-Friendly Accommodation.

Whistler is known for its pet-friendly accommodations, ranging from luxurious resorts to cozy cabins.  Some hotels even offer special dog amenities like dog beds, bowls, and treats.  Some notable options include the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, which provides” a “Puppy Program” complete with dog-sitting services, Blackcomb Springs Suites by CLIQUE, or the Crystal Lodge.

We stayed at the Crystal Lodge and highly recommend it. This hotel welcomes pets with open arms and charges no additional pet fee. Make sure you book in advance,  especially during peak seasons.

At the Crystal Lodge, they provided us with dog bowls, a poop bag, treats, and a dog towel, at no extra charge.

We also loved that this hotel is located in the heart of Whistler Village, where all the conveniences are, and very close to the bike park entrance and the gondola.

3.  Exploring the Great Outdoors.

Your dog is going to love Whistler’s stunning natural beauty.  The area offers plenty of hiking trails for dogs of all sizes and energy levels.

Lost Lake Park is a must-visit. It offers well-maintained trails that wind through serene forests and around the picturesque lake. Dogs are welcome to roam off-leash in designated areas, and there is even a dog beach where your pup can take a refreshing dip.

Rainbow Lake Trail offers breathtaking views for more adventurous hikes, although it’s recommended for dogs that are used to longer treks.

4.  Dining with Your Dog.

After a day of adventuring, you’ll likely want to relax and refuel.

Fortunately, Whistler has several dog-friendly dining options.  Many cafes and restaurants in the village allow dogs on their patios, so you can enjoy a meal without leaving your companion behind.  Be sure to call ahead to check, and always keep your pet leashed and well-behaved.

Our hotel had a pamphlet with dog-sitting information. You can hire somebody to dog-sit in your hotel room for around $25 an hour while you are out for dinner.

5.  Whistler Village Stroll.

No trip to Whistler is complete without a stroll through the  Whistler Village.  The vibrant village is full of shops, cafes, and art galleries, many of which are dog-friendly.  I went into many shops with my dog, and you’ll often find water bowls set out for thirsty pups and plenty of other dogs enjoying the sights.

Stop at Whistler’s Dog Park near the village for some off-leash playtime, where your dog can socialize with local and visiting pups alike.

6.  Safety Tips.

While Whistler is a fantastic destination for dogs, it is essential to consider their safety. Always carry water to keep your dog hydrated, especially during the hot summer. Watch out for wildlife, such as bears and coyotes, and keep your dog leashed in areas where encounters are possible.

We also took our bear spray from home, but you can always purchase it there if needed.

7.  Capture all the Memories.

Whistler is incredibly photogenic, and so is your dog!  Take plenty of photos to capture the memories of your adventure.  Whether a candid shot of your pup or a posed picture in front of the mountains, these photos will be cherished souvenirs of your family trip.

Travelling to Whistler with your dog is an unforgettable experience your entire family will treasure.  Its breathtaking nature views, endless outdoor activities, and pet-friendly amenities make it a fantastic place to visit with your dog.

Pack your bags, leash up your pup, and prepare for a fun adventure at one of Canada’s most beautiful destinations!

Have fun!
