Our multi-generational family trip to Hotel Riu Playacar in Playa del Carmen was a delightful experience that catered to all ages in our large travel party, from babies and toddlers to grandparents and a great-grandma. The resort’s family-friendly amenities, spacious accommodations, and diverse dining options made it an ideal choice for our large group.

Family-Friendly Accommodations

The resort offers over 300 rooms equipped with modern conveniences such as satellite TV, air conditioning, a safe, and a mini-bar with a beverage dispenser. We found the rooms to be comfortable and well-suited for families, providing ample space for relaxation after a day full of activities.

Pools and Water Park

One of the highlights for our family was the children’s pool area, featuring slides and a dedicated kids’ club. The large pools were never overly crowded, allowing both adults and children to enjoy swimming and poolside activities comfortably. The resort also offers a variety of entertainment around the pools, including volleyball, aqua aerobics, and foam parties, ensuring fun for everyone.

Beach Access

Situated directly on the beautiful Playa del Carmen beach, the resort provides easy access to the pristine shoreline. Our family enjoyed spending time on the beach, with its soft sand and clear waters, perfect for both relaxation and play.

We also decided to pay for the resort’s professional photography services and got some pretty special family photos.  We have photos of the kid’s great-grandma and all her grandkids together at the beach as a momentum of the holiday.

Dining Options

With four on-site restaurants, including buffet and themed options like Asian and Italian cuisine, there was always something to satisfy everyone’s palate. Even our picky eaters found dishes they enjoyed, and we were pleased that no one in our group experienced any stomach issues during our stay.

Additional Amenities

The resort offers a range of activities suitable for all ages, including a gym, beach volleyball court, and group fitness activities. For water enthusiasts, options like windsurfing, kayaking, and snorkelling are available. The RiuLand Kids’ Club provides daytime entertainment programs for children, allowing parents some leisure time.

Considerations:

While our overall experience was positive, there are areas where the resort could improve:

In-Room Wi-Fi: There is a fee for in-room Wi-Fi, which can be an inconvenience if you are expecting complimentary internet access throughout the property.

Limited Ocean Views: Due to the resort’s layout, few rooms offer full ocean views, which might be a drawback if you are seeking a seaside vista.

Beach Shade: While the beach is beautiful, there are no umbrellas provided, though palm trees offer some natural shade.

In general Hotel Riu Playacar exceeded our expectations for a multi-generational family vacation. Its combination of family-friendly facilities, diverse dining options, and a welcoming atmosphere made our stay memorable. We would highly recommend this resort to families seeking a balanced and enjoyable getaway in Playa del Carmen.
